Agartala: Nov 02. The Sadar Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), West Tripura, has denied permission to the Youth Tipra Federation (YTF) to hold a mass rally at Astabal Ground (Vivekananda Ground) in Agartala, citing safety and public convenience concerns.
According to an official communication issued on Saturday, the venue’s half portion is currently occupied by the ongoing International Expo, which has seen large footfall, including women, children, and international delegates. The SDPO stated that conducting a rally simultaneously could lead to congestion and potential stampede-like situations, endangering public safety and property.
The police further noted that the Vivekananda Ground’s central location and surrounding roads serve as crucial routes for hospital and city traffic. A large gathering, the letter said, could severely disrupt vehicular movement and obstruct emergency services.
The YTF has been advised to propose an alternate venue or date for the event, which, the SDPO assured, would be reviewed in consultation with relevant authorities.
The official also appealed to the organizers for cooperation in maintaining peace, order, and safety in the city.
