Agartala: Oct 31. Bengal’s pace spearhead Mohammed Shami will be the centre of attention as the in-form side faces Tripura in a Ranji Trophy Elite Group-C encounter starting Saturday at the Maharaja Bir Bikram Stadium.
Fresh from a successful comeback following a prolonged injury layoff, Shami has already claimed 15 wickets in two matches, reigniting hopes of a Test recall ahead of India’s home series against South Africa beginning November 14. His presence not only strengthens Bengal’s bowling attack but also lends the side a psychological edge in this third-round clash.
However, conditions in Agartala may not offer the veteran pacer much assistance, with curators expected to prepare a flat batting surface.
Meanwhile, the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) has named Manisankar Murasingh as captain for the 2025–26 Ranji season, with Sridam Pal as vice-captain. Under duo leadership, Tripura has suffered two losses so far this season.
