Agartala: Oct 30. A gruesome and shocking murder, driven by superstition, has shaken the village of Mancharan Kobra Para under Sidhai Police Station under West Tripura district.
According to police sources, on the night of October 26, around 10 p.m., a group of villagers allegedly dragged 51-year-old Nanda Rani Debbarma out of her house and brutally assaulted her on suspicion of practicing witchcraft. Later, she was reportedly strangled to death with a towel inside her home.
Following a written complaint lodged by the victim’s son, Shankar Debbarma, the Sidai Police registered a murder case Case No- 2025SDI071, dated October 28, 2025) against nine accused persons and several unidentified others.
Under the supervision of SDPO Sabyasachi Debnath of Mohanpur subdivision, a police team led by Inspector Ajit Kumar Chakma OC, Sidhai PS and Investigating Officer SI Md. Mamon Ullah Kazi arrested three prime accused. They will be produced before the court tomorrow.
Preliminary investigation indicates that blind faith and superstition led to the tragic death of an innocent woman, leaving her family in deep mental and social distress.
