Agartala: Oct 29. Acting on a tip-off, Dharmanagar Police detained three Bangladeshi nationals from a jungle area under West Chandrapur Police Station on Wednesday.
The detainees were identified as Mohammad Nur Alam, Raihan Mia, and Mahi Uddin, all residents of Brahmanbaria district in Bangladesh. Police said the trio had illegally crossed the Indo-Bangladesh border with the assistance of a local agent, Islam Uddin, and had been residing in India for over six months.
A preliminary investigation revealed that after crossing the border, the men traveled to Bengaluru, where they reportedly paid ₹5,000 each to obtain fake Indian Aadhaar cards through a trafficking network. They later moved to Kolkata and North 24 Parganas, staying there for about three months before returning to Tripura.
Upon their return, they took shelter at Islam’s residence in West Chandrapur. Police sources said Islam, who allegedly charged Rs 12,000 per person for facilitating their illegal entry, is currently absconding.
Confirming the arrest, Dharmanagar Officer-in-Charge Mina Debbarma said the detainees were taken into custody based on specific intelligence inputs. “A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to trace the network involved in cross-border infiltration and document forgery,” she stated.
Police have initiated legal procedures, and deportation will follow upon completion of all formalities.
