Tripura, 27 Oct 2025: Tension has erupted once again in Tripura over illegal infiltration from Bangladesh. A young woman from across the border reportedly entered India illegally and married a local youth from Teliamura. The incident took place in the Mahadebtila area under Khowai Police Station.
According to reports, on the night of October 24, Rachana Tripura (19), daughter of Sanjay Tripura and a resident of Masterpara in Khagrachhari district, Bangladesh, was brought to India by Bikash Debnath (23), son of Bijoy Debnath, a resident of Baishgaria in Teliamura. The two allegedly solemnized their marriage at the Ghilatali Shiva Temple, even in the absence of a priest.
After the wedding, the newlywed couple went to stay at a relative’s house in Mahadebtila under Khowai PS. However, local residents became suspicious and questioned the woman’s identity. When it was revealed that the bride was a Bangladeshi national, locals detained the couple and informed the police.
Officers from the Subhas Park Police Outpost, led by OC Ranjit Sarkar, reached the spot and took both individuals into custody. Police said that procedures are underway to deport the Bangladeshi woman as per legal provisions.
Meanwhile, the incident has sparked serious questions about border security. Locals alleged that despite BSF vigilance, illegal infiltration continues to occur frequently. Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine how the woman managed to cross the international border undetected.
