Agartala: Oct 26. A case has been filed against Tripura Police Constable Amir Bhuiya, a resident of Matinagar, Fultali under Amtali Police Station, for allegedly harassing locals, forcibly seizing land, and extorting money in the name of senior police officials. Amir Bhuiya, son of Kadam Ali Bhuiya, is currently posted at the office of the West District Superintendent of Police.
Local residents alleged that the constable has been intimidating poor and innocent villagers for years, using his position in the police force to extort money and occupy legal properties by force. It is further alleged that he often invokes the name of the West District SP to justify his actions.
Villagers also claimed that Amir Bhuiya joined the Tripura Police about ten years ago, but within this short period, he has allegedly built two luxurious houses worth over Rs 1.5 crore in Matinagar and Boxanagar, raising suspicions about the source of his wealth.
The controversy escalated when Bhuiya reportedly forcibly occupied the land of an elderly villager and threatened to evict the owner. In response, locals convened a village meeting (gram sabha) on Sunday, where Bhuiya allegedly misbehaved with senior residents and even threatened to have them arrested using his police connections.
Following the incident, affected residents filed a written complaint at Amtali Police Station against the constable. They also informed the State Police Headquarters about his alleged misconduct.
Amtali Police Officer-in-Charge Paritosh Das assured the villagers that strict action will be taken against the accused after proper investigation.
Local victims, speaking to reporters outside Amtali Police Station, accused Bhuiya of extortion, intimidation, and illegal property occupation. They urged the Chief Minister and the State Police Administration to take immediate and strong action.
