Agartala: Oct 26: Former Union Minister of State (MoS) Pratima Bhowmik is facing widespread criticism after allegedly accusing Ambassa Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Rinku Reang of involving officers by calling them during the October 23 violence that erupted during the Bandh at Salema Block under Dhalai District. MoS Bhowmik said, “Taine eito phone koira koira officer re pita khao waise.” The remarks, now circulating widely on social media, have been viewed by netizens as insulting to the SDM.
The controversy follows a recent incident in which Bhowmik’s convoy was reportedly stopped by Ambassa police while she was on her way to attend an organisational meeting in Dharmanagar. According to sources, the former MoS alleged that the police action was unnecessary and politically motivated, raising questions about administrative impartiality. Eyewitnesses said that the convoy faced a brief delay, which escalated into a public debate after Bhowmik’s remarks were shared online.
Political observers suggest that the incident may reflect internal divisions within the BJP, with factions allegedly aligned with Dr. Manik Saha and Pratima Bhowmik at odds over organisational matters.
Netizens and political commentators have voiced mixed reactions. Many condemned Bhowmik’s language as disrespectful to a government official, while others called for a thorough investigation to determine the veracity of her claims. Social media users have also argued that if the allegations made by Bhowmik are proven false, she should be held accountable for her remarks.
