Tripura, 25 Oct 2025: Acting on a tip-off, Bishramganj Police on Friday night intercepted a Maruti WagonR bearing registration number TR01BU0380. The vehicle was brought to Bishramganj Police Station, where officers conducted an intensive hour-long search.
During the search, Officer-in-Charge Ajit Debbarma discovered three packets wrapped in black plastic hidden beneath the car seat, near the CNG tank. When the packets were opened inside the police station, they were found to contain a large amount of cash.

Following the discovery, OC Debbarma immediately informed Additional Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajib Sutradhar of Sipahijala district and Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Shashi Mohan Debbarma of Sonamura. A bank official was called to the station to count the money in the presence of senior police officials. The counting was done under CCTV surveillance using a machine, and most of the notes were ₹500 denominations.
In total, ₹15 lakh was recovered from the three packets.
Speaking to the media, ASP Rajib Sutradhar said the seized vehicle had been traveling from Melaghar towards Agartala. The driver, Shahin Mia (25), son of Siraj Mia, a resident of Melaghar Chandigarh, and passenger Shantanu Saha (37), son of Niranjan Saha of Melaghar Sukantapalli, were detained for questioning.
The police reported that neither of the two men could produce valid documents for the large sum of money. Authorities suspect the money may be unaccounted or illegally obtained. A detailed investigation is underway to determine the source and purpose of the cash.
Just a few days earlier, Bishramganj Police had seized six cartons of expensive mobile phones from the same naka point. Now, the recovery of ₹15 lakh in cash has sparked widespread sensation in the area.
ASP Rajib Sutradhar and OC Ajit Debbarma stated that if the suspects fail to provide legitimate documentation for the money, legal action will be taken against them as per law.
