Tripura, 24 Oct 2025: Amid controversy over a Bangladeshi identity card going viral on social media in his name, Tipra Motha MLA Ranjit Debbarma has strongly denied the allegations, calling the circulated document “completely fake.”
Speaking to the media, Debbarma said, “They are claiming I am a Bangladeshi citizen so what reaction should I give? I will respond according to the law. I have seen the post that shows a Bangladeshi identity card with my name. Even my birth certificate has gone viral on social media, and some local media outlets, including Dainik Samvad Bureau, have written about it.”

He added, “This is not just about me I’ve also seen fake ID cards and birth certificates of our Chief Minister and our MP being circulated online. So, I will respond legally. I will file a complaint with the Privilege Committee of the Assembly and demand immediate action.”
Calling the viral ID “entirely fabricated,” the MLA stated, “If you claim I’m Bangladeshi, then tell me my ancestors have been here for generations. Where did this fake photo come from, who made it, and who spread it? I will identify those responsible and take legal action against them. I will fight this battle through the law and ensure those who spread this false information face consequences.”
