Agartala, October 19, 2025: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s Tripura unit has issued a show-cause notice to Boxanagar MLA Md. Tafajjal Hossain for publicly criticizing senior party leaders, including former Chief Minister and MP Biplab Kumar Deb and former Union Minister Pratima Bhoumik, during a public event on Saturday evening.
The controversy erupted after MLA Hossain, while addressing a gathering at Boxanagar football ground in Sepahijala district, alleged that both MPs had refused to sanction funds from their MP LAD (Local Area Development) funds for the construction of the northern gallery of the local football ground.

He claimed, “We requested funds from Pratima Bhoumik and Biplab Deb, but they did not help. However, Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee immediately sanctioned ₹50 lakh from his MP fund for the gallery.”
Hossain’s remarks which included strong words directed at the senior leaders triggered outrage within the BJP. Party insiders said his statements were seen as a direct attack on the organization’s leadership.
Earlier today, Tripura BJP State President and MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, when asked about the incident, said,
“It is highly condemnable for any BJP legislator or karyakarta to publicly criticize our senior leadership. The issue has been discussed with the central leadership, and the party will take an appropriate decision. We are united, and both Biplab Deb and Pratima Bhoumik are respected leaders of our party.”
Following this, the BJP’s Tripura Pradesh office issued an official show-cause notice (No.1826/F.2(3)BJP/TPA/2025) to Tafajjal Hossain, dated October 19, 2025, signed by Amit Rakshit, General Secretary of BJP Tripura Pradesh.
The notice stated that Hossain’s public remarks amounted to “gross indiscipline and deliberate violation of the party code of conduct” and that such behavior had “tarnished the image of the party and embarrassed its leadership.”
He has been asked to submit a written explanation within five days explaining why disciplinary action should not be taken against him. Failure to do so may result in “appropriate disciplinary measures as deemed fit by the competent authority.”
Copies of the notice have also been forwarded to State President Rajib Bhattacharjee, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, and State Prabhari Dr. Rajdeep Roy.
