Tripura, 19 Oct 2025: In a touching tribute to countless girls whose lives have been extinguished due to gender discrimination, female foeticide, and child marriage, a special event was organized yesterday at Amarpur Block ahead of Diwali. As part of the event, 3,000 earthen lamps were lit, symbolizing hope and respect for those lost lives.
The programme began with the ceremonial lighting of the auspicious lamp by MLA Ranjit Das. Among the dignitaries present were South Tripura District Additional District Magistrate & Collector Subhash Acharya, Chairperson of Amarpur Panchayat Samiti Suchitra Das, and Chairman of Amarpur BAC Rabitra Jamatia, among others.
In his inaugural address, MLA Ranjit Das said the event was inspired by the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, emphasizing the spirit of “Swadeshi” (self-reliance) and moral integrity. He urged all government officials to maintain transparency and dedication in their developmental work.
The event also featured a theatrical performance on child marriage prevention, alongside various cultural programmes. A welcome address was delivered by Amarpur BDO Utpal Das, and discussions were held on the success stories of women under the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM).
The evening’s symbolic lamp-lighting served as a reminder of the continuing need for gender equality and social awareness.
