Tripura, 18 Oct 2025: A mysterious case of sudden illness involving a student from Tripura has sparked concern after the boy, studying in Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur district, was hospitalized under suspicious circumstances.
Ranjit Debbarma, MLA of 24-Ramchandraghat constituency in Tripura, has written to the Director General of Police (DGP) of Tripura, urging a thorough investigation into the matter through the Uttar Pradesh Police.
In his letter, the MLA mentioned that Montu Debbarma, a resident of Ampura Bazaar in Khowai district and a constituent of his assembly area, had submitted a written complaint stating that his son, Jewel Debbarma, a Class IX student, was completely healthy and cheerful until October 13. However, on October 16, the school authorities suddenly informed the family that Jewel had fallen seriously ill and was admitted to the ICU.

The sudden deterioration of the boy’s health within just three days has raised suspicions among his family and local residents. Although the school authorities sent flight tickets for the parents, the family has alleged that the school’s vague explanation has deepened their concerns.
In his letter, MLA Ranjit Debbarma wrote,
“Such a serious illness within such a short span of time appears highly mysterious. A detailed investigation by the concerned police authorities of Uttar Pradesh is essential to uncover the truth. At the same time, immediate administrative measures must be taken on humanitarian grounds to bring the ailing student back to Tripura.”
A copy of the letter has also been sent to the Chief Minister of Tripura for high-level monitoring of the matter.
Meanwhile, Jewel’s father, Montu Debbarma, has also informed the MLA about the situation and sought his assistance. In his written appeal, he stated,
“I visited my son at the school on October 13, and he was very happy then. But on October 16, the school suddenly called to say that he had fallen seriously ill and was hospitalized. I want my son to be brought back to Tripura as soon as possible.”
It may be noted that Jewel Debbarma, a resident of Ampura Bazaar in Khowai district, is a Class IX student of Hanuman Prasad Satyanarayan Poddar Inter College (H.P.S.N.P. Inter College) located at Rambagh, under Chunar Police Station area in Mirzapur district, Uttar Pradesh.
