Agartala, October 17, 2025: In a major success in the fight against drug trafficking, a joint operation carried out on Thursday (October 16) by the Government Railway Police (GRP), West District Police, Customs Department, and the Special Task Force (STF) led to the recovery of 90,000 bottles of banned Escuf Cough Syrup from a goods train stationed at Jirania Railway Station.
According to a press release issued by the Office of the Director General of Police, Tripura, the raid was conducted in a coordinated manner and resulted in the seizure of cough syrup bottles containing Codeine Phosphate (100 ml each) from two goods train wagons bearing numbers 31032457043 and 30030010892.






The search operation started around 4:30 PM on October 16 and continued till the early hours of October 17. The total market value of the seized contraband is estimated to be around ₹2 crore.
A case has been registered at Agartala GRPS under Case No. 104/2025, dated October 17, 2025, under sections 21(c)/29 of the NDPS Act.
Officials said the operation marks a significant achievement for Tripura Police in their ongoing efforts to curb the smuggling of narcotic substances through railway routes in the state.
