Tripura, 12 oct 2025: After weeks of speculation, the mystery surrounding the tragic death of 10-year-old Abhirup Debnath has finally come to an end. North District Police have arrested the accused driver responsible for the fatal road accident that claimed the young boy’s life during the Durga Puja festivities.
Abhirup, son of Abhijit Debnath of Upendranath Lane, Dharmanagar, was killed in a horrific road mishap that cast a shadow of grief across the entire town. Local residents and the victim’s family had repeatedly demanded strict punishment for the reckless driver.
Acting on sustained investigation, police on Saturday night arrested the accused, Souvik Nath (35), son of Chittaranjan Nath, a resident of Netajipara, Diglarnagar, from the Dharmanagar Railway Station area.
According to police sources, a case has been registered at Dharmanagar Police Station Case No. 2025/DMN/087, dated 01.10.2025, under Sections 281/125(B)/106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS-23) and Sections 184/187 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
Police confirmed that after a prolonged investigation, the accused’s location was tracked and he was taken into custody. Meanwhile, Abhirup’s family members and residents have welcomed the arrest, demanding swift justice and commending the police for their prompt action.
