Despite advanced smuggling techniques, no escape for the accused Assam Police seizes large consignment of narcotic cough syrup, driver arrested
Assam, 7 Oct 2025: Within just 24 hours, Assam’s Churaibari Police achieved yet another major success. Acting swiftly, police seized 3,000 bottles of Eskuf cough syrup from a truck driven by a driver from another state. Despite using new and advanced concealment methods, the accused failed to outsmart the Assam Police’s intelligence.
According to Watch Post In-charge Pranab Mili, as part of their regular routine checking on Tuesday morning around 10 a.m., a 12-wheeler truck (registration no. AS01EC-0528) coming from Guwahati arrived at the Churaibari police checkpoint. During inspection, police discovered several tin boxes designed to look like fake electric meters, inside which the Eskuf bottles were hidden beneath mixed goods and fabrics transported by East India Transport.

Upon breaking open the boxes, police recovered 3,000 bottles of Eskuf syrup, estimated to be worth around ₹30 lakh in the illegal market.
The truck driver, Mohammad Rais (50), son of Gol Mohammad and a resident of Motihari district in Bihar, was arrested on the spot. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway.
Police sources say that uncovering the network of key masterminds behind this operation will expose the larger nexus involved in the illegal narcotics trade, as suspected by the local community.
