Tripura, 01 October 25: A major road accident on Maha Navami morning created panic in Bishramganj area. The incident occurred on Wednesday near Dewanbazar along National Highway 8 under Bishramganj Police Station. A Maruti Eeco car bearing number TR 01 J 2781 was on its way from Udaipur to Agartala when it lost control, went to the wrong side of the road, broke the railing of a small bridge and hung dangerously from a tree by the bank of the Ranga Pania river.
There were five passengers in the car including a minor. All sustained injuries. Hearing the desperate cries of the driver, local residents rushed to the spot. They were shocked to see the vehicle hanging precariously over the river. The villagers immediately informed the Bishramganj fire service who arrived and managed to rescue the passengers. The injured were taken to Bishramganj Primary Health Centre. Locals later said the vehicle narrowly escaped falling into the river, which could have led to a fatal tragedy.
The injured have been identified as Purnima Das aged 33, Ayush Bin aged 11, Rajesh Goalia aged 36, Sita Bin aged 28 and Amit Majumdar aged 27. Even after reaching hospital the passengers were reportedly in deep shock and trembling after the incident.
Residents of the area alleged that despite Dewanbazar being declared a black spot by the Sepahijala District Transport Department long ago, no concrete steps have been taken by the police or traffic authorities to prevent accidents. Road mishaps continue to occur frequently in this stretch. On Maha Navami morning too, the accident spread fear among the people and once again exposed the unsafe condition of this accident-prone zone.
