Agartala, April 25: In a major crackdown on human trafficking, a joint operation was launched from midnight yesterday at Agartala Railway Station by the Agartala GRP Police, 81 Battalion BSF, Sonamura Police Station, and Jatrapur Police Station. During the operation, five Indian agents allegedly involved in human trafficking were arrested.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Jalil Miah from Dhanpur Majadi Bari area, Md. Hasan, Monir Hossain from Birampur under Jatrapur Police Station, Alamgir Hossain, and Jasim Uddin.
According to Tapan Das, Officer-in-Charge of Agartala Railway Police Station, the accused were assisting Bangladeshi nationals who had illegally crossed into Tripura, providing them shelter, food, and facilitating their travel from Agartala Railway Station to other parts of the country.
In a related operation, one Bangladeshi national, Biplob Das from Sunamganj district, was also detained yesterday afternoon at the railway station during a joint checking drive. Additionally, security personnel recovered around 15 kilograms of cannabis (ganja) from Agartala Railway Station during the afternoon operation.
However, no arrests were made in connection with the narcotics seizure. Tapan Das stated that the operations were part of a broader effort to curb illegal migration and drug trafficking in the region.
