5,409 Successful Surgeries in 3 Months at AGMC and GBP Hospital: Health Secretary Kiran Gitte
Tripura, 26 April 2025: In the past three months, a total of 5,409 successful surgeries have been performed at Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GBP Hospital. From January 2025 to April 12, 2025, the surgeries conducted include 2,425 in the Surgery Department, 2,374 in the Orthopedic Department, 515 in the ENT Department, and 95 in the Neurosurgery Department. Health Secretary Kiran Gitte shared this information at a press conference held at the Agartala Press Club today. He mentioned that 99% of the surgeries were planned and conducted on scheduled dates. Currently, 158 patients are on the waiting list for surgeries until June 2025. Additionally, in the last three months, 1,638 echocardiography tests were conducted at AGMC and GBP Hospital. The hospital currently has two C-ARM machines operational. The medical facility consists of nine super-specialty departments, five broad super-specialty departments, and four additional super-specialty departments. At present, the hospital has a total of 1,413 beds. Each year, 150 students enroll in the MBBS course at AGMC, while 89 students join the postgraduate program. The Health Secretary further informed that in the last financial year, 14,222 patients received medical assistance under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, while 7,003 patients benefited from the Mukhyamantri Jan Arogya Yojana. These healthcare schemes are also available in TMC and other hospitals. Currently, the Anesthesiology, ENT, Surgery, and Orthopedic Departments at AGMC and GBP Hospital have a total of 56 doctors. He also mentioned that ₹13 crore has been sanctioned for setting up a Cath Lab in the hospital. Additionally, a proposal for ₹56 crore has been sent to the Central Government to enhance hospital services and procure medical equipment. Efforts are also underway to establish a Stroke Ward in the hospital. The Health Secretary emphasized that Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha has prioritized the healthcare sector. He regularly directs the necessary assistance for people seeking medical help through the ‘Mukhyamantri Samipeshu’ program, held every Wednesday. During the press conference, Dr. Shankar Chakraborty, Superintendent of GBP Hospital, shared various health-related updates, while Dr. Tapan Majumdar, Director of the Health Department, was also present.
