Tripura, April 25, 2025: A self-reliant village leads to a prosperous state and nation. With this aim in mind, efforts to build strong and empowered villages are being carried out under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This was stated by Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy today while inaugurating the National Panchayati Raj Day celebration for Gomati district at the Conference Hall of the Panchayati Raj Training Institute in Udaipur.


He highlighted the crucial role of panchayats in ensuring the reach of government schemes and benefits to citizens in rural areas. Without rural development, true progress of the state or the country is not possible, he emphasized. The Minister added that nearly 4 crore families across India have been provided with housing under the leadership of the Prime Minister. A similar initiative has been undertaken to provide housing to all eligible families in the state.
He further stated that around 85% of households in the state have been connected with drinking water facilities. Efforts are ongoing to provide gas connections, construct toilets, and ensure electricity supply to all eligible families. He also mentioned that the Prime Minister’s initiative has empowered women through self-help groups, and today, nearly 93,000 women in Tripura have become “Lakhpati Didis” (women earning over one lakh rupees annually). The state is moving towards overall development under the leadership of Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha.
At the event, MLA Rampada Jamatia emphasized that panchayats must maintain transparency and ensure that the benefits of government projects reach rural people to support holistic state development. MLA Jitendra Majumder stressed the need for panchayats to actively raise awareness in the mission to build a drug-free Tripura.
The event began with a welcome speech by Gomati District Panchayat Officer Aniruddha Bhattacharjee, and was presided over by Gomati Zilla Parishad Chairperson Debal Deb Roy.
Among other attendees were Udaipur Municipal Council Chairperson Sheetal Chandra Majumder, Gomati Zilla Parishad Vice-Chairperson Sujan Kumar Sen, Chairpersons of Matabari, Kakraban, and Tepania Panchayat Samitis Shilpi Das, Supriya Saha, and Jharna Rani Das respectively; Chairpersons of Killa, Ampi, and Amarpur Block Advisory Committees Baganhari Molsom, Sindhu Chandra Jamatia, and Rabitra Jamatia respectively, along with elected Zilla Parishad members and officials from various departments. As part of the program, one individual from each block of Gomati district was honored with a certificate and a gift for commendable work.
