Tripura, 20 April 2025: In a significant crackdown on the illegal drug trade, the Kailashahar police have successfully seized a large quantity of cannabis and arrested one individual in connection with the case. Acting on a tip-off, the operation was carried out under the leadership of Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Utpalendu Debnath, Officer-in-Charge Sukanta Sen Chowdhury, and other police personnel from the Kailashahar Police Station. According to SDPO Debnath, the operation took place on Sunday, April 20, around 5 PM in the Singirbil area of Kailashahar.
Based on credible intelligence inputs, a police team set up a strategic ambush and intercepted a suspicious old Magic vehicle bearing registration number TR01C3470, which was traveling from Fatikroy towards Kailashahar. During an initial search, nothing appeared unusual.
However, upon conducting a more thorough inspection and dismantling parts of the vehicle, police discovered 68 packets of cannabis concealed inside. The total estimated market value of the seized contraband is around ₹5 lakh.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Liton Das, a resident of the Bhatrapukur area in Agartala, was immediately taken into custody. Investigations revealed that he is not only the driver but also the owner of the vehicle and has been involved in drug trafficking for quite some time.
Police sources confirmed that he was en route to Silchar, Assam with the consignment. The vehicle and the seized cannabis have been taken into police custody at the Kailashahar Police Station.
The accused, Liton Das, is scheduled to be produced before the Kailashahar court on Monday. Speaking on the operation, SDPO Utpalendu Debnath stated, “This is a major breakthrough in our ongoing efforts to curb the narcotics trade in the region.
