Tripura, 02 April 2025: In a well-coordinated operation based on confidential intelligence, Panisagar police successfully intercepted a major liquor smuggling attempt, seizing a battery-operated auto-rickshaw along with a significant quantity of foreign liquor. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Panisagar Police Station, Sumanta Bhattacharya, stated that on Tuesday at approximately 4:00 PM, acting upon credible information, law enforcement personnel strategically positioned themselves at the tri-junction of the Kanchanpur-Jalebasa road.
As anticipated, a battery-powered auto-rickshaw, bearing registration number TR-05-3712, arrived at the location. The police immediately halted the vehicle and conducted a thorough search, leading to the recovery of 300 bottles of foreign liquor spanning multiple brands.
The estimated market value of the confiscated contraband exceeds one lakh rupees. Further investigation led to the arrest of the alleged smuggler, identified as 25-year-old auto-rickshaw driver Bikash Debnath. Following the seizure, both the illicit consignment and the vehicle were transported to Panisagar Police Station for further legal proceedings.
OC Bhattacharya confirmed that a formal case will be registered against the accused under the relevant sections of the law.
