Guwahati, April 1 (SHABD): Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has strongly condemned the controversial remarks made by Mohammad Younus, Chief Advisor to the Interim Government of Bangladesh, regarding the North East region of India.
Taking to social media, Dr Sarma denounced Younus’ statement, in which he reportedly referred to Bangladesh as the “guardian of sea access” for the seven northeastern states of India. The Assam Chief Minister criticized the remark as unacceptable and an attempt to challenge India’s strategic positioning in the region. Dr Sarma further stated that Younus’ comments appear to suggest vulnerabilities in India’s “Chicken’s Neck Corridor,” a crucial geopolitical link connecting the North East with the rest of the country.
He reaffirmed the Indian government’s commitment to strengthening infrastructure, communication, and transportation networks in the region to ensure its security and connectivity. The remarks by Mohammad Younus have stirred political discourse, with strong reactions emerging from leaders across the North East, who view them as an unnecessary provocation.
Meanwhile, diplomatic observers are closely watching the situation, as India and Bangladesh share significant trade and strategic interests in the region. Dr Sarma’s firm stance underscores the government’s dedication to safeguarding national security and enhancing regional connectivity, reinforcing the North East’s integration with the rest of India.
