Agartala, Sep 26: The Tripura State Legal Services Authority organized a felicitation event today to honor the Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) for their invaluable support to flood-affected victims during the recent floods. Justice T. Amarnath Goud, Judge of the Tripura High Court and Executive Chairman of the Tripura State Legal Services Authority, addressed the gathering, describing the PLVs as “soldiers on the ground.” He commended their bravery and commitment during the floods, which occurred between August 20 and August 22, where they risked their lives to assist the victims. Their efforts were not merely a fulfillment of duty, but were carried out with honesty and dedication. The PLVs successfully rescued 253 families affected by the floods and landslides. Furthermore, they safely relocated 28 orphan girls and 19 orphan boys from Alor Dishari Children’s Home in Gomati district to the Tepania and Khilpara Boys’ Homes under the guidance of the Child Welfare Committee.
Justice Goud also emphasized the critical role played by the district and sub-divisional administrations, as well as the health, social welfare, and education departments, in supporting the PLVs. He mentioned that the PLVs provided essential items like T-shirts, pants, frocks, towels, sanitary kits, and medicines to the flood-affected children, elderly, and others in Gomati district. He praised this initiative for setting an example not only within the state but also across the country, encouraging PLVs in other districts. Justice Goud highlighted that serving others is a noble virtue, and the PLVs have exemplified this in action. He urged them to continue their year-round social service work.
