Belonia, 25 September: In a tragic incident on Wednesday afternoon, a construction worker was electrocuted while three others sustained injuries in Belonia’s SBI Bank-adjacent area, under the jurisdiction of the Belonia police station. The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. at the residence of Chandan Majumder, where RCC pillar construction was underway.
According to eyewitnesses, while placing iron rods for the RCC pillar, one of the rods came into contact with a high-voltage power line running along the street. Subrata Karmakar (Kalu), a mason and resident of Shaltilla, was electrocuted on the spot. The other three workers, including a female laborer, were rushed to Belonia Hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment.
Upon receiving the news, Belonia fire service personnel promptly arrived at the scene and transported the injured to the hospital. The tragic death of Subrata Karmakar has cast a pall of grief over the local community.
