Agartala 18 September, 2024: The GEM Excellence Summit Tripura was held today at Agartala Town Hall, with Abhishek Singh, Secretary of the Power Department, inaugurating the event. In his address, Singh discussed the benefits that the government has gained in procurement since the introduction of the GEM (Government e-Marketplace) portal. He highlighted how the portal has brought transparency, efficiency, and professionalism to the process of purchasing government materials. So far, various state departments have procured goods worth ₹679 crore through GEM, with ₹275 crore worth of purchases made in the 2023-24 financial year. The portal has registered 904 Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) in the state, along with 804 buyers and 18,017 sellers. In the 2023-24 financial year alone, 4,155 new sellers registered on the portal.
Akinchan Sarkar, Additional Secretary of the Finance Department, also spoke at the summit, noting that the Central Government first launched the GEM portal on August 9, 2016. During the event, several departments were honored for their significant procurement volumes through GEM. These included the Health and Family Welfare, School Education, Revenue, Police, and Fire Services departments, which were ranked from first to fifth, respectively. Special recognition was also given to the Urban Development, Rural Development, and Finance departments.
In his speech, Amaradeep Gupta, Director of State GEM, mentioned that during the last financial year, government departments across India procured goods worth ₹4 lakh crore through GEM. He also noted that Tripura ranks second in the northeast region, just behind Assam, in terms of procurement via the portal. Gupta added that similar summits have been organized at the district level as well.
The second phase of the summit included a technical discussion on various aspects of the GEM portal. Several officials from different departments were present at the event.
