Agartala 6 Sep, 2024: The Tripura government is actively working to create job opportunities and alternative employment for unemployed youth in the state, according to Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy. He shared these details during a brief discussion on a public interest issue brought up by MLA Sudip Roy Barman in the state assembly. The topic of the discussion was the urgent need to fill vacant posts in various departments of the Tripura government with direct recruitment.
Participating in the discussion, Minister Tinku Roy highlighted that the state government is aware of the employment needs of the state’s youth and has been implementing a transparent recruitment policy since coming to power. The objective is to ensure that eligible candidates from Tripura can secure government jobs. To facilitate this, the Joint Recruitment Board Tripura (JRBT) was formed to select eligible candidates for Group C and Group D posts. So far, JRBT has selected 1,980 candidates for Group C positions, who have already joined 35 different departments of the state government. The interview process for recruiting 2,500 candidates for Group D posts has also been completed. This large-scale recruitment for Group C and Group D posts is a first in Tripura’s history.
The Youth Affairs and Sports Minister further informed the assembly that during the financial years 2022-23 and 2023-24, a total of 4,849 non-teaching staff were recruited in various state government departments. Additionally, from 2018-19 to 2023-24, a total of 8,024 candidates have been recruited on an outsourcing and contractual basis. The Teachers’ Recruitment Board Tripura (TRBT), through TET examinations, has so far recruited 6,802 regular teachers from 2018-19 to the present. Furthermore, 88 candidates have been recruited as special educators.
The Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC) has been playing a vital role in selecting suitable candidates for various government departments in a transparent manner. Until now, TPSC has recruited 1,742 candidates across different departments, with the process ongoing for filling an additional 745 posts.
Regarding law enforcement recruitment, the Minister highlighted that 119 candidates have been recruited for SI and Constable posts in the state police from 2018-19 to the present. The Tripura State Rifles (India Reserve Battalion) has also formed two new battalions and recruited 1,413 TSR jawans. A selection committee has been formed to recruit 1,000 constables, and physical and written tests for these posts have been completed. Additionally, the process for direct recruitment of 916 more constable posts has begun.
The state government is also focused on filling vacancies in other departments. The Panchayat department recruited 395 Panchayat Executive Officers through TPSC for the financial year 2024-25. The Social Welfare and Social Education Department has offered two CDPO positions and 31 ICDS supervisor positions through TPSC, and recruitment for 10 CDPO and 119 ICDS supervisor positions is underway.
Minister Tinku Roy also noted that from 2018-19 to December 2023, 1,039 Anganwadi workers (AWW) and 1,160 Anganwadi helpers (AWH) were recruited on an honorarium basis in the Social Welfare and Social Education Department. Under the Higher Education Department, efforts are being made to fill 312 vacant gazetted positions, and six assistant professor positions will soon be filled after the recruitment rules are revised.
To address the self-employment needs of unemployed youth, various programs are being implemented under the Tribal Welfare Department. Presenting more details, the Minister shared that on March 31, 2018, the number of registered unemployed persons in the state’s employment centers stood at 741,305. By March 31, 2024, the number of registered job seekers on the National Career Service Portal had decreased to 309,482, indicating that government employment and other job opportunities have increased under the current administration.
