Agartala, 6 September, 2024: The Mukhyamantri Unnoto Godhan Prakalpa, launched in Tripura in 2020, has resulted in the birth of 45,213 hybrid female calves through artificial insemination so far. The announcement was made today in the Tripura Legislative Assembly by Sudhangshu Das, the state’s Animal Resource Development Minister, in response to a written question from MLA Nayan Sarkar.
Minister Das revealed that since the project began on October 28, 2020, a total of 2,44,846 artificial inseminations have been conducted in the state. He also stated that an amount of INR 3,32,80,275 has been spent on the project to date. The artificial inseminations are carried out using sex-sorted frozen semen to ensure a higher probability of female offspring, which is vital for enhancing milk production and supporting the dairy sector.
In response to another query by MLA Nayan Sarkar, Minister Das provided details about the funding and progress of the National Program for Dairy Development (NPDD) in the state. He mentioned that over the past three fiscal years, Tripura has received INR 6,04,14,000 from the Central Government under the NPDD scheme. This funding is being utilized to set up a milk processing plant with a capacity of 40,000 liters per day and to purchase and install various machinery for producing different milk products. So far, 6,184 dairy farmers in the state have benefited from the project.
The Mukhyamantri Unnoto Godhan Prakalpa is one of the state’s flagship schemes aimed at improving the quality of livestock and boosting dairy production. With focused initiatives like artificial insemination using sex-sorted semen, the state is striving to empower dairy farmers and enhance their livelihoods.
The progress under both the Mukhyamantri Unnoto Godhan Prakalpa and the National Program for Dairy Development signifies Tripura’s commitment to strengthening its dairy sector, aiming for a sustainable and prosperous future for its rural economy.
