Tripura 30 August, 2024: A Central Inter-Ministerial Team arrived in Tripura today to assess the flood situation in the state. The team conducted separate visits to various flood-affected areas in Gomati and South Tripura districts, where they interacted with affected residents and inspected relief camps.
The delegation, led by B.C. Joshi, Joint Secretary (Foreigners) of the Ministry of Home Affairs, included Jintu Das, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, and Umesh Kumar Ram, Joint Director (DISHA) of the Ministry of Rural Development. They inspected the flood-affected regions of Belonia, Santirbazar, and Sabroom in South Tripura district. In a separate visit, Mahesh Kumar, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Finance’s Expenditure Department, P.K. Meena, Superintendent Engineer of the Guwahati Regional Office of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, and Shashank Bhushan, Director of the Ministry of Jal Shakti, surveyed flood-hit areas in Udaipur and Amarpur of Gomati district.
During the visit, the team examined the damage caused by river erosion along the Muhuri River in the Bankar area of Belonia, inspected damaged agricultural lands in Maichara Town Camp, and visited flood-affected homes in Ashish Das and nearby areas. They also assessed road damage near Ratanpur on the Belonia-Jolaibari road, reviewed the condition of relief camps at South Muhuripur JB School, and interacted with local residents about their concerns.
The team also inspected the national highway erosion in South Hichachhara ADC Village on the Agartala-Sabroom road and evaluated the post-flood situation in Gobindamath, an area known as the “granary of Manu ghat.”
The district administration, led by Smita Mall, District Magistrate of South Tripura, along with Sub-Divisional Magistrates of Belonia, Santirbazar, and Sabroom, Block Development Officers (BDOs), and officials from various departments, accompanied the central team.
Before visiting the affected areas in South Tripura, the Central Inter-Ministerial Team held a meeting at the Circuit House in Belonia. During the meeting, District Magistrate Smita Mall presented a detailed report on the flood situation and the extent of damage in the district. The team was also joined by Tamal Majumdar, Additional Secretary of the Revenue Department.
In Gomati district, the team led by Mahesh Kumar, P.K. Meena, and Shashank Bhushan visited the flood-affected areas of Udaipur, starting from Subhash Setu, where they observed the inundated areas on both sides of the Gomati River and inspected the damaged houses. They then moved to Hirapur near Maharani Barrage to assess the condition of damaged agricultural fields and interacted with villagers. Further inspections were conducted along the Udaipur-Amarpur road in Gandhari, damaged roads in Kakraban, damaged houses and crops in Rangamati’s Cooperative Para, and the flooded fishing ponds in Bampara and other areas.
The team was accompanied by Jitendra Majumdar, MLA, Jayanta Bhattacharya, Additional District Magistrate of Gomati, Vinay Bhushan Das, Additional District Magistrate, Sumit Lodh, Additional Secretary of the Revenue Department, Sharad Kumar Das, State Project Officer of the Disaster Management Department, and officials from various departments.
This visit by the Central Inter-Ministerial Team aims to evaluate the damage caused by the recent floods in Tripura and to plan further measures for relief and rehabilitation.
