Press Meet: Revenue Secretary Addresses Recent Flood Issues

Today, in a press meet held at the Civil Secretariat, Agartala, the Revenue Secretary addressed the ongoing flood crisis in Tripura following the unprecedented rainfall from August 19-23, 2024. The Revenue Secretary reiterated that the state government has officially declared Tripura as a “Natural Calamity Affected Area” due to the extensive damage and loss caused by the floods.
He reported that 32 people have lost their lives, with 2 injured and 1 person missing. As of now, around 52,906 people are sheltered in 346 relief camps set up across the state. The District Administration is actively involved in providing essential relief materials, including food, drinking water, and medical aid. Measures are in place to prevent water-borne diseases by ensuring proper sanitation in the camps.
The Revenue Secretary also confirmed that an Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) led by Shri B.C. Joshi, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, has arrived in the state to assess the flood damage. The team is conducting field inspections in the most severely affected areas, including South Tripura and Gomati districts.
In response to the public health concerns, the Department of Health has deployed medical teams to visit the relief camps and conduct health check-ups. Over 1,867 health camps have been organized, reaching 43,887 individuals. Restoration of power supply is ongoing, with 70-90% recovery achieved in several divisions.
Additionally, the Labour Department has announced financial assistance of ₹4,000 for each of the 42,981 registered construction workers impacted by the floods, totaling ₹17.20 crore in aid.
The Secretary concluded by encouraging NGOs, individuals, and organizations to contribute to the relief efforts, emphasizing the need for usable, clean, and safe items.
