Agartala, 6 August, 2024: In a significant move towards enhancing electricity supply in Tripura, Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha announced plans to expand underground cable lines in the state. This initiative will first be implemented in the capital city, Agartala. The Chief Minister disclosed this during his visit to the State Load Dispatch Center (SLDC) located in 79 Tilla, Agartala.
During the visit, the Chief Minister reviewed the overall electricity supply and management system in the state, gaining detailed insights into the operations of the SLDC. He emphasized that the center constantly monitors electricity generation, transmission, and distribution companies to ensure uninterrupted power supply to consumers. Notably, the Central Government has awarded the SLDC an ISO certification for complying with cyber security norms, marking a significant achievement for the state.
Chief Minister Saha highlighted Tripura’s unique position in the Northeast as the only state supplying electricity to neighboring Bangladesh. He reaffirmed the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure continuous and reliable power supply to all consumers in the state. The government is also initiating the replacement of old power transmission lines and promoting the use of solar energy as an alternative power source.
Expressing concern over occasional attacks on electricity workers, the Chief Minister condemned such incidents, emphasizing the importance of their safety and well-being.
Accompanying the Chief Minister, Power Minister Ratanlal Nath explained that the SLDC operates in coordination with the five Regional Load Dispatch Centers under the National Load Dispatch Center. The SLDC plays a crucial role in ensuring quality and uninterrupted power supply by coordinating among the state’s electricity generation, transmission, and distribution companies.
Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited’s Managing Director, Biswajit Basu, and General Manager of Tripura Power Transmission Limited, Ranjan Debbarma, also attended the visit. They provided detailed briefings on the SLDC’s operations and future plans to the Chief Minister.
This strategic initiative for underground cable expansion and improved power infrastructure is expected to significantly bolster Tripura’s electricity supply system, ensuring a more resilient and efficient power distribution network for the state’s residents.
