Agartala, July 30, 2024 – A comprehensive training camp focused on delivering mental health services commenced today at Pragna Bhawan for Community Health Officers (CHOs). This initiative, organized by the National Health Mission (NHM) and the Health and Family Welfare Department, aims to enhance the capabilities of CHOs in identifying and managing mental health issues at the grassroots level.
The training program is being conducted by nine expert physicians from the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) in Bengaluru. Scheduled to run until August 2, the camp has attracted the participation of 200 CHOs from across the state.
The primary objective of the training is to equip CHOs with the skills to identify early signs of mental illness and effectively refer patients for further treatment through proper counseling techniques. This initiative is a critical step towards improving mental health care accessibility and quality in rural and underserved areas.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by prominent officials, including Rajib Dutta, Mission Director of the National Health Mission, Dr. Anjan Das, Director of Family Planning and Preventive Medicine, Dr. Rabindranath Hegde, Assistant Professor of Mental Health Program at NIMHANS, Dr. Udayan Majumdar, State Program Officer of the National Mental Health Program in Tripura, and Dr. Swapan Chandra Barman, Head of the Department at Narsingarh Mental Health Centre.
