In a shocking turn of events, Ganda Twisa is under Section 144 as communal tensions rise following the death of Parameshwar Reang, a young Tiprasa, on July 12, 2024. Reang succumbed to injuries sustained during a brutal assault at Ananda Mela in Gandacherra on July 7, 2024.
Parameshwar Reang, son of a Sub-Divisional Zonal (SDZ) officer, attempted to intervene in an altercation at the fair, resulting in a mob attack that led to his tragic demise. The incident has ignited significant unrest in the region.
Assault Details
The conflict began when assailants, who belong to the Bengali community, were reportedly thrashing a mental patient following a road rage incident. Reang, who knew the patient as a neighbor, stepped in to diffuse the situation. Unfortunately, the attackers then turned their aggression toward Reang, resulting in a violent mob assault involving 14 to 50 people.
Father’s Account
According to the victim’s father, the mob used rods and even electrocuted Parameshwar. “He was left senseless beside the road, thinking he is dead. Then a villager recognized him that it’s my son and called me at around 10 pm and he called the PS and arranged a vehicle to the hospital (Ganda Twisa). We parents were not even aware of it,” he stated.
Medical Transfer and Death
Due to severe blood loss, Parameshwar was initially treated at Ganda Twisa Hospital before being transferred to Dhalai District Hospital. However, due to the lack of functioning X-ray and CT scan machines, he was further referred to GB Hospital on July 8, 2024. Despite medical efforts, he passed away five days later.
Community Reaction and Imposition of Section 144
The death of Parameshwar Reang has led to widespread anger and communal tension in the area, prompting authorities to impose Section 144 to prevent further escalation. The imposition restricts assembly and movement to maintain peace.
Parameshwar’s Aspirations
Parameshwar Reang had recently graduated from Assam Rifles Public School in Agartala and was set to join Union Christian College in Shillong on July 18, 2024. His untimely death has not only devastated his family but also stirred the local community.
As Ganda Twisa grapples with the aftermath of this tragic incident, the imposition of Section 144 aims to restore order and prevent further violence. The community mourns the loss of a promising young life, calling for justice and peace in these turbulent times.
