Agartala, July 2, 2024 – In a significant move to bridge the gap for students left out of previous schemes, Shri Pranajit Singha Roy, Hon’ble Minister of IT, Government of Tripura, today launched the Mukhyamantri Yuba Yogajog Yojana (MYYY) (Special) at the DIT, IT Bhavan, Indranagar, Agartala. This special initiative extends the financial assistance for smartphone procurement to final year undergraduate students who missed out in the Academic Year (AY) 2022-23.
The Mukhyamantri Yuba Yogajog Yojana originally started in 2020, providing reimbursement of up to Rs. 5000 for smartphones to final year students in government institutions. Since its inception, the scheme has benefitted over 40,215 students, with a total expenditure of approximately Rs. 20.11 crore. In FY 2023-24 alone, 11,458 students received the grant.
Recognizing that about 12,000 students from AY 2022-23 were not covered under the scheme in FY 2023-24, the government has now relaxed the guidelines to include these students. The special scheme has been allocated a budget of Rs. 10 crore in the BE 2024-25 to accommodate these beneficiaries.
During the launch event, Shri Pranajit Singha Roy emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting the educational needs of students, ensuring they have the necessary tools to succeed in a digital age. “This special initiative is a testament to our dedication to providing equal opportunities for all students, especially those who have been inadvertently left out of previous schemes,” he stated.
The event was attended by prominent officials, including Smt. Viswasree B., IAS, Secretary in charge, IT, Government of Tripura; Shri Jeya Ragul Geshan B., IFS, Director, IT; and Shri Bidyut Datta, Additional Director, IT, Government of Tripura. Students and nodal officials from various institutions were also present, with some participating via video conferencing.
This initiative marks a continued effort by the Government of Tripura to enhance educational resources and support for students, aligning with broader goals of digital inclusion and empowerment.
