Khumulwng, June 28, 2024: The Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) is set to undergo a boundary redefinition, following the acceptance of a proposal to form a high-level committee. The proposal was raised during today’s assembly session by Dhirendra Debbarma through an attention motion. Key members discussing the matter included Chief Executive Member Purna Chandra Jamatia, Education Executive Member Rabindra Debbarma, Information and Cultural Affairs Executive Member Suhel Debbarma, Member Bimalkanti Chakma, and Member Hangsha Kumar Tripura.
A significant issue discussed was the lack of proper boundary determination for the TTAADC since its establishment in 1982. Some village committee areas remained within the ADC jurisdiction until 2010, after which they were incorporated into Gram Panchayats. This incorporation has raised questions regarding its legality, as including or excluding any village from the ADC area requires the Governor’s approval—a process allegedly bypassed in these cases.
To address these discrepancies, the proposal to form a high-level committee has been put forth. This committee will review the boundary delineation process for the TTAADC and provide recommendations to ensure transparency and legitimacy in future boundary determinations.
A New Chapter in Tribal Area Development
Experts see this initiative as crucial for the development and administrative clarity of Tripura’s tribal areas. Accurate boundary redefinition will help residents secure their rights and access benefits more effectively.
With this proposal now accepted, it is expected that a new chapter will begin for the TTAADC, ensuring clarity and fairness in its administrative boundaries.
