Agartala, June 27, 2024 — The Tipra Motha Party (TMP) has raised concerns over delays in filling two vacant seats in the Autonomous District Council (ADC) and in conducting village council elections. Party President B.K. Hrangkhawl, along with CWC members Rajeshwar Debbarma and Mevar Kumar Jamatia, addressed the issue in a press conference on Thursday.
The TMP leaders announced that they met with the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and submitted a memorandum to the State Election Commissioner. This memorandum highlighted the vacancies in the khowai and Champahawor ADC areas, which have remained unfilled for two years despite regulations mandating by-elections within six months. They also pressed for prompt village council elections.
“The government’s inaction has compelled us to escalate the matter,” stated Hrangkhawl. The memorandum led to a commitment, influenced by the Governor’s intervention, to hold elections for the vacant ADC seats and the village council within four months following the August panchayat elections.
The TMP’s move underscores their demand for timely democratic processes in the region, reflecting growing concerns among constituents about governance and representation.
