Belonia, June 19, 2024 — A significant workshop on the Prevention of Child Trafficking was held today at the Conference Hall of the Belonia Circuit House. The event was organized by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) in collaboration with the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights and the South Tripura District Administration.
The workshop featured presentations and discussions led by Sunakshi Radhika, Consultant at the NCPCR. District Magistrate Dr. Siddharth Shiv Jaiswal, Additional Superintendent of Police Maria Krishna Chandra Shekhar, Additional District Magistrate (PP) Hemant Debbarma, and other key officials including Sub-Divisional Magistrates, Sub-Divisional Police Officers, Block Officers, and Commandants of the Border Security Force attended the event. Members of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, District Child Welfare Committee, Social Welfare Department, Department of Social Education, Information and Culture Department, as well as representatives from Childline and various NGOs were also present.
During the workshop, Radhika reviewed the current measures in place to protect child rights in South Tripura. She delivered a detailed PowerPoint presentation on the initiatives taken by the NCPCR, emphasizing the need for stringent implementation of child protection measures. She acknowledged the efforts of the District Magistrate in preventing child marriage and urged all attendees to remain vigilant and proactive in combating child trafficking and child marriage.
Keynote speakers, including the Deputy Commissioner, Additional Superintendent of Police, and State Child Rights Protection Commission member Sharmila Chowdhury, called on all citizens to take active roles in preventing child trafficking and child marriage. The workshop is part of a broader initiative by the NCPCR to conduct such sessions in 100 districts, especially those on or near the country’s borders, to enhance child protection efforts.
The workshop concluded with a call for increased community engagement and cooperation to safeguard the rights of children in the region.
