Sipahijala, Tripura – June 12, 2024: A pivotal workshop aimed at preventing child trafficking was held today in the conference hall of the District Magistrate’s office in Sipahijala district. This workshop was a collaborative effort between the National Child Rights Protection Commission (NCPCR) and the Tripura Child Rights Protection Commission (TCPCR).
The workshop was presided over by Jayanti Debbarma, Chairperson of the TCPCR. Key attendees included Sonakshi Radhika, Resource Person from the NCPCR, and Subrata Majumdar, Additional District Commissioner. The event focused on bolstering efforts to combat child trafficking through increased awareness and cooperation between various agencies.
In her opening remarks, Jayanti Debbarma emphasized the importance of joint efforts between national and state-level bodies to effectively address child trafficking issues. “The collaboration between NCPCR and TCPCR is crucial in our fight against child trafficking. Our aim is to create a robust framework that protects vulnerable children and ensures their rights are upheld,” she stated.
Sonakshi Radhika highlighted key strategies for the prevention of child trafficking, focusing on the importance of community vigilance and inter-agency coordination. She stressed the need for ongoing education and support systems to protect at-risk children.
Additionally, Assistant Professor Swapan Debbarma from Tripura Law College provided an insightful discussion on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the legal frameworks in place for child rights protection. His presentation underscored the legal avenues available for safeguarding children and prosecuting offenders.
