Tripura 4 May 2024: In a significant breakthrough against human trafficking, the Sidai Police, in coordination with the GRP (Government Railway Police), apprehended two individuals last night. The suspects, identified as Sri Bapan Bhomik and Sri Goutam Sarkar, were taken into custody from their residence in Rangamura and Harianakhala respectively, both located within the jurisdiction of Sidai Police Station in West Tripura.
The arrests came after a prolonged surveillance operation, indicating the police’s persistence and dedication to combating such heinous crimes. Both suspects are believed to have been involved in aiding illegal entry into India from both sides of the Bangladesh border, facilitating the trafficking of Bangladeshi nationals and Rohingya refugees into the country.
The duo’s interrogation is currently underway, as law enforcement authorities delve deeper into their alleged involvement in the illicit human trafficking network. They are slated to be presented before the esteemed court for further legal proceedings today.
Notably, the suspects’ residences are within close proximity to the Rangamura border, underscoring the strategic location chosen by traffickers for their nefarious activities. Over time, this area has become a focal point for authorities battling against illegal immigration and human trafficking across the borders.
