King Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur of the former Kingdom of Tripura built Neermahal in 1930, and it was completed in 1938. The palace is located in the middle of Rudrasagar Lake in Melaghar, 55 kilometers from Agartala. The word “Neer” means “water” in Sanskrit and Bengali, and “Mahal” means “palace.” The palace is also known as the “Lake Palace of Tripura.
