Agartala, March 22: In anticipation of the forthcoming Lok Sabha General Elections, a Screening Committee, led by the Chief Secretary of the State, has been established to enforce the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). The MCC prohibits any permits during its implementation period. Should there be a need for clarification, the Screening Committee will meticulously review pertinent matters before escalating them to the Election Commission of India.
Comprising Secretaries/Principal Secretaries from relevant departments, including Planning (P&C), GA (Printing and Stationery), Home (Jails), Industries and Commerce, Health and Family Welfare, and Public Works, as well as Secretaries of (R&B) Departments, and the Director-General of State Police/Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, this Committee ensures comprehensive oversight, particularly regarding proposals related to the Home and Forest Departments.
Chief Electoral Officer Puneet Agarwal disseminated this information through an official circular, underscoring the state’s commitment to conducting fair and transparent elections.
In a parallel development, the Election Commission of India has deployed Expenditure Monitor Pradeep Sharma, IRS (IT), to oversee the election process for the 1-Tripura West Parliamentary Constituency and the 7-Ramnagar Assembly Constituency by-elections.
