Tripura 3 Dec,23: Renowned musician and cultural icon Thanga Darlong, father of Rasem, breathed his last at the age of 103 in Murai village, under the Kailashahar Gournagar D Block. Honored with the Padma Shri by the Indian government, Thanga Darlong mesmerized audiences not only in the state but across borders with his musical prowess, playing the traditional Roshan Baji since 1938.
Expressing deep sorrow, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha stated, “Thanga Darlong was a relentless cultural personality who significantly contributed to the enduring cultural heritage of the state’s indigenous communities. Recognizing his remarkable contribution to the development and discourse of folk culture, the Indian government bestowed upon him the Padma Shri honor.”
The demise of the legendary artist marks an irreparable loss to the cultural world of the state. In his condolence message, the Chief Minister conveyed heartfelt sympathy to Thanga Darlong’s grieving family and admirers, expressing profound solidarity during this time of mourning. He extended sincere wishes for eternal peace to the departed soul.
