Tripura (Belonia) 25, November 23: In a bid to combat substance abuse, South Tripura has taken a proactive step by launching the South Tripura Drugs-Free Super League Football Tournament. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha inaugurated the competition at the B.K.I Football Ground with the slogan ‘Let’s Play, Say No to Drugs.’
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister emphasized the role of sports in physical and mental development, stating that engaging in sports alongside education is crucial. He praised the initiative taken by the South Tripura district administration and encouraged clubs, social organizations, and businesses to actively participate in the campaign against substance abuse.
Dr. Saha expressed concern over the high incidence of substance abuse in Tripura and urged parents and teachers to be vigilant. He highlighted the establishment of de-addiction centers across all eight districts as part of the state’s commitment to combating substance abuse.
Sports Minister Tinku Ray echoed the Chief Minister’s sentiments, emphasizing the need to build a drug-free youth society to fulfill the Prime Minister’s vision of a vibrant India. Ray called for collective efforts from all sections of society to create an environment conducive to nurturing a drug-free generation.
Welcoming the initiative, Deputy Speaker of the South Tripura District Council Vibhishan Chandra Das, along with other dignitaries like MLA Moliya Mog, MLA Swapna Majumdar, and Police Superintendent Akash Kumar Sinha, attended the inaugural ceremony.
It is noteworthy that a total of eleven football teams from the district are participating in this competition, demonstrating the community’s commitment to addressing the issue of substance abuse and promoting a healthy lifestyle among the youth.
