Ranirbazar, August 25, 2024 : A disturbing incident of communal violence has shaken the village of Durganagar under the Ranirbazar area. On August 25, 2024, miscreants vandalized the idol of Kali at a local temple, sparking widespread unrest and violent reprisals targeting the minority Muslim community in the area. In a series of retaliatory attacks, at least eight houses belonging to the minority community were set ablaze, and 13 vehicles were torched. There were also reports of looting and extensive vandalism of homes, shops, and boundary walls.
While the entire state of Tripura is grappling with a severe flood situation, this act of violence is being seen as a deliberate attempt to disrupt communal harmony and peace in the region. Many residents, already reeling from the flood crisis, were further terrorized by the wave of violence.
Local leaders and residents are now demanding strict action against the perpetrators of these heinous acts. In an appeal to the Director General of Police (DGP), there has been a call for a thorough investigation to identify the culprits behind both the idol vandalism and the subsequent violent attacks. There is a strong demand for exemplary punishment to serve as a deterrent against such actions in the future.
The state administration and law enforcement agencies have been urged to take immediate and effective steps to restore peace and communal harmony in the area. Residents have also requested additional security measures to ensure the safety of all communities living in the region.
