Jishnu Dev Varma Appointed as New Governor of Telangana
Agartala, July 28, 2024 – In a historic move, Jishnu Dev Varma, the former Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura and a senior BJP leader, has been appointed as the new Governor of Telangana. This announcement came through an official notification from Rashtrapati Bhavan on Saturday night.
This appointment marks a significant milestone as Jishnu Dev Varma becomes the first individual from Tripura to be appointed to such a prestigious position since India’s independence. The news has been met with widespread acclaim and congratulatory messages from various quarters.
Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha extended his congratulations to Jishnu Dev Varma on his new role. In a statement on social media, Dr. Saha expressed his gratitude to the President of India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this distinguished appointment. “For the first time since independence, a son of Tripura’s soil has been appointed as the Governor of a state. My heartfelt congratulations to Jishnu Dev Varma on being appointed the Governor of Telangana,” he said.
President Droupadi Murmu also announced several other significant appointments in the same notification. Notably, Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde, the former Speaker of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, has been appointed as the Governor of Rajasthan. Om Prakash Mathur, a former Rajya Sabha MP from Rajasthan, has been named the Governor of Sikkim. Santosh Kumar Gangwar, a former Union Minister, will serve as the Governor of Jharkhand. Ramen Deka, a former Lok Sabha MP from Assam, has been appointed as the Governor of Chhattisgarh.
In addition, C.H. Vijayashankar, a former minister from Karnataka, has been appointed as the Governor of Meghalaya. Jharkhand’s Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan will now serve as the Governor of Maharashtra. Gulab Chand Kataria, the current Governor of Assam, has been appointed as the Governor of Punjab and the Administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh. Lakshman Prasad Acharya, the current Governor of Sikkim, will now serve as the Governor of Assam and hold additional responsibilities as the Governor of Manipur. Former IAS officer K. Kailashnathan has been appointed as the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry.
Following the official announcement, Jishnu Dev Varma has been receiving a flood of congratulatory messages. Tripura’s Minister for Power, Ratan Lal Nath, took to social media to express his pride and congratulations. “For the first time since independence, a son of Tripura has been appointed as the Governor of a state. Heartfelt congratulations to Jishnu Dev Varma on this momentous appointment,” he wrote.
The entire state of Tripura is celebrating this historic achievement, with many viewing it as a recognition of the state’s growing prominence on the national stage.
