Guwahati, July 25, 2024 – In a historic move, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the state’s Combined Civil Service Examination (Main) will feature questions in Assamese for the first time. The examination, conducted by the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC), will commence on Friday, July 26.
The Chief Minister revealed that the decision to include Assamese alongside English was made by the APSC under the guidance of the Assam government. “The Combined Civil Service Examination starts tomorrow. For the first time in history, all questions will be in Assamese in addition to English, as per the instructions of the Government of Assam,” Sarma stated in a post on X. “Kudos to the Assam Public Service Commission for this historic move,” he added.
The APSC emphasized that this decision aims to improve accessibility for Assamese-speaking candidates, ensuring they can compete on an equal footing. The Combined Civil Service Examination (Main) comprises six papers, and the exams are scheduled to be held in July.
This initiative is expected to significantly benefit candidates who are more proficient in Assamese, reflecting the government’s commitment to promoting regional languages and inclusivity in state-level examinations.
