Agartala, July 24, 2024: A one-day training camp on the process of birth and death registration in the CRS (Civil Registration System) portal was held today in West Tripura. The camp was inaugurated at the Muktadhara Auditorium by Ravindra Riang, Director of Census Operations. The event saw the presence of Sajal Biswas, Additional District Magistrate of West Tripura, and Ranjan Biswas, Chief Health Officer.
In his inaugural speech, Ravindra Riang highlighted the changes brought by the RBD (Amendment) Act, 2023. According to the act, from October 1, 2023, the birth certificate will be the sole proof of birth for children born in India. He also emphasized that in the case of deaths in government and private health institutions, a certificate mentioning the exact cause of death must be provided to the relevant registrar and the deceased’s next of kin. Additionally, the birth and death certificates must be issued free of charge within seven days of registration.
The training camp involved officials from various levels, including village panchayats, village committees, health institutions, municipal councils, municipal corporations, sub-divisional, and district administrations. The second session of the camp provided detailed discussions on the birth and death registration process in the CRS portal. The attending officials expressed optimism about the benefits of the new regulations.
