Tripura Achieves New Record in Tree Plantation
In a landmark initiative, Tripura has set a new standard in afforestation by planting 5 lakh saplings in a mere 5 minutes. This record-breaking mass tree plantation drive took place today in Taranagar, Mohanpur, and was inaugurated by Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha. The event is a testament to the state’s commitment to enhancing its green cover and underscores a collective effort towards environmental sustainability.
Chief Minister’s Vision for a Greener Tripura
At the event, Chief Minister Saha highlighted the critical role of nature in our lives and the need to preserve it for future generations. “Nature and environment are for everyone. We have much to learn from nature, and it is our duty to ensure a beautiful environment for our future generations,” he stated. The Chief Minister’s address emphasized the importance of such afforestation efforts, aiming to set a positive example for other states in India.
Rising to the Top in Afforestation Efforts
Tripura’s afforestation campaigns have seen a remarkable increase over the past years. The number of saplings planted annually has surged from 1 lakh in 2022 to 2 lakh in 2023, reaching an unprecedented 5 lakh this year. Chief Minister Saha expressed pride in these achievements, suggesting that Tripura is on the path to becoming a leader in afforestation among the northeastern states. “Such campaigns are vital and innovative. As this message spreads across India, Tripura will be recognized in a new light,” he added.
Ministerial Support for Ecological Balance
Supporting the Chief Minister at the event were Agriculture Minister Ratanlal Nath and Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma. They reiterated the urgent need to protect the ecological balance and counteract global warming through continuous afforestation. Minister Nath stressed the principle of compensatory planting, urging that for every tree felled, ten more should be planted. He stated, “Without nature’s aid, survival is impossible. Development should go hand in hand with environmental conservation.”
Community Involvement and Future Plans
Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma hailed the event as a milestone in environmental protection, noting the participation of diverse groups including students, BSF, CRPF, and various institutions. He also unveiled plans for developing one of the largest flower gardens in the northeastern region within the next two years. The Chief Conservator of Forests RK Shyamal and Principal Secretary Puneet Aggarwal underscored the significance of these initiatives and encouraged continued community involvement.
Enthusiastic Participation Marks Event’s Success
The Chief Minister’s arrival in Fatikchara, Mohanpur, was met with a spirited bike rally, leading to a grand reception at the event venue. The large turnout in Taranagar reflected the community’s enthusiasm and commitment to the mass plantation drive, signaling a significant step towards a greener and more sustainable Tripura.
The mass tree plantation drive in Tripura sets a benchmark for environmental efforts across India. By planting 5 lakh saplings in just 5 minutes, Tripura showcases its dedication to combating climate change and promoting ecological balance, setting a precedent for other states to follow.
