Agartala, June 29, 2024: In a commemorative event for Statistics Day, celebrated on the birth anniversary of the pioneering statistician Professor Prashant Chandra Mahalanobis, Statistics Minister Bikash Debbarma emphasized the essential role of data in effective planning and implementation. The event took place at Hall No. 2 of Rabindra Bhawan, where Debbarma outlined the significant contributions of the Department of Finance and Statistics in data collection and dissemination.
“Planning and implementation are impossible without accurate and comprehensive data,” Minister Debbarma stated, highlighting ongoing efforts to modernize the department. He announced the construction of a new office building and the extension of statistical services from the current four districts to all districts in the state.
Themed “Use of Data for Decision Making,” the event included a blood donation camp where 34 officers and employees of the department donated blood. Minister Debbarma lauded the donors’ commitment and participation in the camp.
Abhishek Chandra, Special Secretary of the Department, provided insights into various departmental programs through a detailed PowerPoint presentation. Census Officer Ravindra Ryan discussed the critical need for census data, while Additional Director Arup Kumar Chand and Director Debananda Riang also addressed the gathering, with Riang delivering the vote of thanks.
Minister Debbarma also unveiled two new publications: NSS Report Book, Debt and Investment and NSS Report Book, Household Social Consumption on Health in Tripura. The event began with tributes to Professor Mahalanobis, honoring his lasting impact on statistics and planning in India.
