Agartala, June 11, 2024 — Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha chaired a significant review meeting today at the Beautification Secretariat to discuss the enhancement of both sides of the road from Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport to Agartala city. Emphasizing the integration of the state’s rich cultural heritage into the project, the Chief Minister advocated for the involvement of local artists to ensure a unique and authentic beautification process.
Dr. Saha underscored the importance of maintaining high standards in the quality of the beautification work, urging project implementers to ensure no compromises. Additionally, he highlighted the necessity of installing adequate street lighting along the Airport-Agartala road to enhance visibility and safety.
The meeting revealed plans for the construction of an aesthetically pleasing foot over bridge at Radhanagar Motor Stand in Agartala. Designed to alleviate congestion and provide safe passage for pedestrians, this bridge will feature four escalators. The Urban Infrastructure Development Fund has allocated ₹5.60 crore for this project.
Shailesh Yadav, the Commissioner of Agartala Municipal Corporation and CEO of the Smart City Project, presented a detailed pictorial report outlining the proposed beautification initiatives. These include:
- Floral Enhancements: Planting a variety of flower species.
- Wall Renovations: Replacing old walls and showcasing the cultural diversity of Tripura’s ethnic groups.
- Cultural Replicas: Constructing replicas of iconic sites like Unakoti and Chhabimura.
- Parks and Sculptures: Developing small parks and installing steel sculptures and statues.
- Pedestrian Amenities: Building sidewalks and implementing color zebra crossings.
- Modern Signage: Installing contemporary hoardings.
Mr. Yadav indicated that the project, with an estimated cost of ₹5.5 crore, aims to be completed within the next 5-6 months.
Senior officials, including Chief Secretary JK Sinha, Urban Development Secretary Abhishek Singh, Finance Secretary Apoorba Roy, and representatives from various departments, along with the Airport Authority, attended the meeting.
This initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing the aesthetic appeal and functional infrastructure of the Agartala city road, reflecting the state’s commitment to blending cultural heritage with modern urban development.
