Tripura, 04 Nov 2026: A serious allegation has emerged against parking department staff at Agartala Railway Station following a dispute over a parking fee of just ₹20. A verbal altercation between a woman passenger and a female parking staff member allegedly escalated into a physical altercation, creating tension on the station premises.
According to the complainant, Nilanjana Bhattacharya, the incident occurred when she was getting down from an auto-rickshaw. She claimed that the vehicle was not parked in any designated parking area and had stopped approximately 50 metres away from the station entrance. Despite this, a parking staff member allegedly demanded ₹20 as a parking fee.

When she questioned the reason for the charge, she reportedly asked the staff to show the official rules and guidelines authorising the collection of the fee.
However, the situation allegedly escalated when a female staff member approached her aggressively. An elderly staff member reportedly questioned her claim of being an SDM and allegedly threatened to damage her mobile phone if she continued recording the incident. The complainant also alleged that when she tried to record the female staff member’s identity card, it was snatched away.
In her complaint, Nilanjana further alleged that the female staff member pushed her, used abusive language, pulled her hair and physically assaulted her. She claimed that the situation could have become even more serious had her mother not been present at the spot.
Despite several passengers being present at the railway station, the complainant alleged that nobody from the parking staff came forward to help her. Instead, some people reportedly tried to stop her from proceeding further.
As a result of the incident, she allegedly missed her scheduled train and could not reach her workplace on time.
Following the incident, Nilanjana Bhattacharya submitted a written complaint to the authorities, demanding the registration of a formal FIR and appropriate legal action against the staff members involved.
The incident has raised several questions regarding the rules governing parking fee collection at Agartala Railway Station. Why was a parking fee demanded when the vehicle was allegedly not standing in a designated parking area? What are the official guidelines for collecting such charges? And why did a dispute over a small fee allegedly escalate into physical harassment of a passenger?
The complainant has demanded an impartial investigation and appropriate action against those responsible. The allegations are yet to be independently verified, and the response of the railway authorities is awaited.
